Worst part about aging up the characters in the movie We lost that chance to see them grow I started reading the books only this year (I’m on the lost hero right now) And already I’m obsessed with watching these characters grow I’m 19 I read a story about this little 12 year old going on a scary adventure And being the coolest kid ever as he did I watched and read as he grew up As I saw him go through the ages I’d already been through Except he fought gods and monster while doing it You won’t even stop teens from liking something by making the characters kids Because we WERE kids Not that long ago either We’re at the perfect age to remember BEING where Percy was We can empathize with his struggles as he grows up because we just finished going through that Or maybe still are going through it Falling for a girl you thought was just a friend Finding who you are despite assuming you’d already known Growing up and having to face the world more and more We all remember that So of course we love watching Percy grow up Y’know what we don’t love Seeing someone our age pop into a camp Immediately do something crazy And then kinda just Win It feels less like watching a kid we saw grow up finally win his battle And more like seeing a random guy from class not even try and still get everything he wants Then just Boom, done, no more plot We don’t get time to see him as us Only time to see him as a teenager We aren’t going to bond with him just cuz he’s our age We know hundreds of people our age and they all suck We want to see a kid Someone we used to be BECOME us Grow up and become who we already are That’s why the Harry Potter movies worked We saw a small Harry Potter go through hell We remembered being that kid Not in a closet under the stairs hopefully But Afraid Hopeful Scared of what’s new And excited to see what’s to come And then we watched as he grew up Becoming a teenager just like us With that same anger we hold to our pasts With all that passion that we got to SEE develop And I think the most important part For those of us watching Harry Potter now We get to see him grow in just a few hours And we still feel those emotions But for those of us who watched the movies as they came out We got to grow up with him If we were kids We grew as Harry did If we were teens We got to look back at a little of who we used to be as Harry got older He’d always be where we just were That’s something so magical that OF COURSE it’ll make millions That could have happened with the Percy Jackson movies too They could have been something we watched grow up along side us just like Harry Instead we got to show up See a random teen we knew nothing about Get told “Look he’s been through pain” Shrug Watch him suffer maybe a little Then watch him win A 17 year old fighting a god is gonna give him some trauma sure But like Generally they’ve got the life skills to handle some shocking news They know how to be people and how to hold themselves up But a 12 year old fighting a god They barely know how to do math They’re not even in highschool These kids probably haven’t even had the talk with their parents yet They’re barely even people at that age Just learning how to spell correctly and not piss off their friends These kids still play make believe on the playground Remember being 12 Remember all the cringy stuff you did? Cuz you were just a kid Now imagine instead of recording yourself singing on your 3DS You were learning to stab monsters And you had to accept your own possible death And then run in head first to fight a god For a parent you’ve never met Who barely speaks to you And who you now have to accept will never have a normal relationship with you But who cares about all that mental stuff and how it would effect a small child and shape them into a stronger adult with will to survive even the most dangerous of enemies We need a hot 17 year old because those crazy teenagers will like it more if they can “relate” because the character they’re watching was born the same year as them That’s way more important than forming a deep connection with the viewer that will lead to fans who could tell you the exact hight and weight of every character in the series at any given point in time and tell you what they had for breakfast that day to boot

This just makes me sad, hearing that this person that wrote this book turned these characters into something they are not. Ariel and Eric aren't stupid, Ursula wants to take over the sea, not land. Ariel wants to go up to the surface because it was her DREAM to be a human. She didn't just go up to the surface just for a boy. In The Little Mermaid, Ariel had a dream and was willing to do anything to make her dream come true. Eric was her PUSH into making Ariel actually try to make her dream come true. The Little Mermaid is about a mermaid who has a dream, but people thinks it's about a mermaid lusting for a human boy and that pisses me off so much because they are missing the whole message the movie is trying to say and I feel like I'm the only one who smart enough to catch the message of the story of The Little Mermaid. The story of The Little Mermaid is such a beautiful story about a mermaid fulfilling her dream of being a human. Ariel was already had a collection of human things in a cave, where she sung a whole song "Part of Your World", but it's more like "Part of That World" since she sung this before meeting and saving Eric. (In the song, if you listen to it closely she says "part of THAT world" never "part of your world") After she saved Eric and had a crush, she did was any normal girl did when they had a crush. Then She had that argument with her dad, and he destroyed her whole collection of human objects so after he left and Ursula's eels (I have what their names are) took this chance and tell Ariel about Ursula and so does what some teenagers do when their parents don't let them do something and out of rebellion and that push she got from Eric earlier in the movie she went with the eels to Ursula to fulfill her dream of becoming a human and exploring land, and on the side possibly try to get with her crush, not knowing that she's putting herself, her family and maybe her crush in danger. All she wanted was to be a human and explore land. And then at the end she got her dream, getting more time to explore and alongside that, she gets to be with her crush, Eric. In the story, Eric has two roles in the story: One: Be the love interest. And Two: Be Ariel's push to actually fulfill her dream. Also, let's talk about Part of Your World because I feel like this might be a part of the reason why people get so confused on why Ariel wants to go to the surface. This song should actually be called is "Part of That World" because in the song she never said "your" in Part of That World, calling the humans "people" and she sings it to both herself and Flounder who are both sea creatures and it doesn't make sense if she said "your" while singing to herself and Flounder because they aren't from the surface. While the song she sings to Eric after saving him should be called "Part of Your World" Because she is saying "your" and is singing to Eric so it would make sense if she says "your" in that song because she's singing to Eric who is a human and from land. This is like the whole "Belle fell in love with her kidnapper" thing. No. She. Didn't. Belle never fell in love with Beast until the very end of the movie. When Belle was held prisoner by Beast, she didn't like him until he started to be more nicer and the two made a friendship with each other. Beast may have fallen in love with her, but she never did with him. Beast was friend zoned for the whole middle part of the movie. then Beast let her go, breaking off the whole "you are my prisoner" thing because he wants her to be happy, even though the curse might kill him or whatever the curse does when the last petal falls. So after he let her go, Belle was no longer his prisoner and was free. At that mob scene, she literally says "he's my friend" and she went back to warn Beast (who was her friend) about the mob that was going to kill him. And then when Beast faced off Gaston and then after Gaston died and Beast was dying that's when Belle fell in loved with him. Ariel dreamed of going up to the surface and Belle friend zoned Beast until the very end of the movie. Now in this book, that writer should have made Ursula the Queen of The Sea while forcing Voiceless Ariel to be her servant and with the sisters straight up putting them in prison or turn them into those weird plant things in her house and have Ariel try to make a plan to escape Ursula's grip, and then try to save the sea when she does escape. While Eric could either still be under Ursula's spell or she could make him and everyone forget that everything that happened, forget about Ariel, the wedding and all of that and Eric wouldn't be under Ursula's spell, but Eric feels like something is wrong with him, he doesn't know what, but has dreams of a girl because Ursula's magic can't change dreams and by the start of the story, he goes to try to find this girl to see if she can get rid of this feeling that something is wrong. And then Ariel and Eric run into each other and then Ursula realizes Ariel's gone and has the whole kingdom looking for her. Ariel and Eric become friends again and Ariel tries to help Eric assuming she probably has magic of her own (but it would be a lot weaker then her father's magic?) but it doesn't work and the two work together to defeat Ursula after finding out both their problems. And then at the end, when Ursula's dead, Ariel get her voice back and her freedom and Eric gets his memories back. And then Ariel's oldest sister inherits The Late Sea King's trident and makes Ariel into a human and she can be a human and be with Eric. Well obviously this would need to take more then an hour or so to plan a whole book with this path. I just came up with this under like an hour, but I feel like this would be more appropriate and canon to The Little Mermaid, Ursula rules the sea, Ariel belongs to Ursula and Eric is not under Ursula's spell (because she does not care about him, she was just using him to make Ariel fail the deal she made with Ursula), but basically erased his memory of Ariel and both his and the crowd's memory of the wedding. But still make him a part of the story by him dreaming of a girl (Ariel) and feeling like something is wrong with him that will eventually lead him into finding Ariel again and then the two like in the movie will work together to kill Ursula in the end. Oh my stars, this comment is long, I didn't mean for that. I'm sorry.

It was Eragon, where The Big Bad ominously alluded to and we only see his face in the final battle, then the movie has to give his actor(John Malkovich) screen time, which is what happened with The Fire Lord from Avatar.

The Titans Curse: It’s a middle part to a series and is a great book, but it did have a confusing middle part. The Lightning Thief: It’s the start to great series but it lacks the compelling story the others have The Battle of The Labyrinth: It sets up the finale great The Sea of Monsters: I just don’t understand the hate around this book, but it just has so many great moments with Percy and Annabeth with them feeling more like friends than just people who know each other. Also when Percy was trying Annabeth from the Sirens, my heart was literally racing because I scared for her. But it did have a few awkward moments here and there The Last Olympian: It ties the whole series beautifully and left a tear in my eye

Can confirm that Little Women largely takes place in the 1860's We know this because when Amy is writing her 'will', she writes the date as 1861. Good Wives (aka Little Women Part 2) then begins around 1864-65, since it is said to begin 3 years later with Meg's Wedding Also awesome video! This was right up my alley
